Privacy Policy

The Redline (redlinedigest.com) is an independent publication for solo and small-firm lawyers. We are the controller of the personal data described on this page. You can reach us at team@redlinedigest.com.

Your email address, if you subscribe to the newsletter, request the free starter kit or enter it to unlock your quiz result. The form sends it straight to Kit (kit.com), the email service we use. We use it to confirm your signup and send the kit you asked for, then the weekly brief. We rely on your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email.

Quiz answers. The safety quiz is calculated in your browser. We do not receive or store your answers. If you enter an email to unlock the breakdown, only the email goes to Kit.

Page-view statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which produces aggregate traffic figures without cookies. Cloudflare also sees ordinary request data (such as your IP address) because it hosts and delivers the site and protects it from abuse. Our legitimate interest is running a secure site and knowing which articles are read.

Fonts. Our fonts are served from our own domain. No font provider receives your IP address when a page loads.

In your browser only. If you rate an article, the choice is kept in your browser's local storage on your device. We do not receive it.

Email you send us. If you write to us, we keep the message and our reply so we can deal with your request.

Paid downloads are sold through Gumroad, a separate company with its own privacy policy. We do not see your card details.

Some links on this site go to tools we cover. Where a link is an affiliate link it is marked as such, and the vendor may set its own cookies when you arrive on its site. We do not receive personal data about you from those clicks. See our About page for how we handle affiliate links.

Kit handles our email. Cloudflare handles hosting, delivery and analytics. They process data on our behalf or as independent providers under their own terms, and some are based in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or the EEA, those providers rely on the transfer safeguards described in their own privacy documentation. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for automated decisions about you.

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We may keep a minimal record that you unsubscribed so that we do not email you again. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with the request and a reasonable period afterwards.

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, a portable copy, or object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you can withdraw consent at any time. If you live in California you have equivalent rights to know, delete and correct personal information, and we do not sell or share it for cross-context advertising. To use any of these rights, email team@redlinedigest.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

This site is written for lawyers and is not directed at children.

If we change how we handle personal data we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to how we use your email address will also be announced in the newsletter.
